Ramsey County Provides Live Simultaneous Interpreting at Community Budget Meeting

Ramsey County held its 2024-25 Biennial Budget Information and Listening Session last month at the Union Depot in St. Paul. Our interpreters provided live simultaneous interpreting to both in-person and virtual attendees in ASL, Spanish, Hmong, Somali and Karen languages.  Participants accessed the session remotely then chose their language from a drop-down menu.  They were also able to participate in the question-and-answer session following the presentation.

Over the past three decades, Ramsey County has welcomed tens of thousands of new Americans from Southeast Asia, Africa, the former Soviet Union, and the Spanish- speaking countries of Central and South America and the Caribbean.

The county recognizes the challenges faced by its Limited English Proficient community and seeks to eliminate the “disparity in the delivery of, and access to, all our services for people who cannot take full advantage of those services without language assistance, both verbal and written.”

Ramsey County’s Language Access Plan (LAP) calls for community engagement from cities, schools, hospitals, businesses, and non-profit organizations.  The budget information and listening session is an excellent example of the county’s LAP goal to broaden access to language assistance by combining technology and language diversity.

Our team partnered with Ramsey County to ensure successful multilingual communication for the session attendees. Conference interpreting is one of the many professional language services we offer. Visit our website to learn more.
