The Benefits of Working with a Trained Interpreter

The need for spoken language services in the U.S. is driven by many factors including increased globalization, migration, and refugee resettlement. Schools, healthcare systems, law enforcement, legal services and local government and non-profit agencies have federal and state language access requirements for their growing Limited English Proficient (LEP) populations. There are several reasons why Language Access Plans (LAP) should include the services of professional language interpreters and translators whenever possible.

Education, Certification and Training – Interpreters must accurately convey information from a source language to a target language, a skill that requires extensive training and practice beyond bilingual skills.   The spoken language Translation and Interpreting (TRIN) Program at Century College trains bilingual students to provide professional language interpreting and translation services. It offers a diploma or certificate option and is the state’s only college-level translation and interpreting program focused on spoken languages.  ULC is proud to partner with Century College by providing interpreting students with meaningful internship opportunities. As the demand for language services continues to grow, both education and training opportunities must keep pace. We are committed to developing and supporting current and future language service professionals.

Cross-Cultural Awareness and Accuracy – Our interpreters possess dual language expertise and cross-cultural competency.  Cultural awareness, sensitivity and understanding are key to an accurate exchange of information for the client.

Professional Standards and Experience – Our highly qualified interpreters and translators adhere to a code of ethics and demonstrate professional conduct in all settings.  ULC has extensive experience in healthcare, social services, education, legal, and business settings, enabling us to provide the best interpreter for your needs.  We offer face-to-face and video and phone interpreting, along with language services for conferences, special events, translations, proficiency testing and language training.
