Afghan Language Specialists Resettling in Minnesota

Interpreters and Translators Among Those Arriving at End of Month

We are ready to receive our professional colleagues and their families. An estimated 50,000 Afghan refugees are expected to arrive in the United States this month, with approximately 300 to resettle in Minnesota.

For non-English speaking refugees, language access support and interpreting services are critical for all points of resettlement including legal services, health care, education, and housing.

Thousands of Afghan immigrants have resettled in the United States through the Special Immigrant Visa Program (SIV). The program provides visas to Afghans who supported the U.S. Armed Forces as interpreters and translators in Afghanistan. It also allows spouses and children under 21 to resettle in the U.S.

University Language Center supports our partners in resettlement services at the federal, state, and local level.
